I would have loved a stronger ending with a more meaningful backstory to the greatest protagonists of the series, but other reviews have me guessing that perhaps I missed something along the way. I was surprised and vaguely uncomfortable with the deeper dive into the romance portion of the story in the final book. She consistently acted in line with what her character profile was set to from the beginning. What I truly loved about this book is that while romance was involved it did not tarnish the protagonists character or values. It’s not as fantastical as Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings in it’s fantasy narrative but it does dip far enough into that realm to stand uniquely on its own and secure its spot within the genre. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and a touch of fantasy. Over the year that it took me to digest the entire literary series I found myself fully engaged and immersed in the world(s) of lead characters Irene, Kai, and Vale.
